Kyro II should run on i440BX just fine. If it doesn't, then it is probably damaged somehow. AGP 4x/8x boards (chipsets) are completely different story as the Kyro II is known to have issues there. But on any AGP 2x capable board it should run.

Congrats 😀 Fixing your GF 256 DDR is great news. If you currently run Pentium III on VIA chipset, then it is very likely a bottleneck. In 3dMark99 especially. For example on 2 GHz Athlon XP I got 11000 points.

98SE. And it was on Core 2 Duo with P965 board, where everything else including GeForce 7000 series worked reasonably well.

Do you really have P4 2.8 GHz with SDRAM? It is possible but very unusual configuration. In case you really have SDRAM, the performance of such PC will be much lower compared to regular DDR memory.

VSA-100 is limited by poor geometry throughput, and SLI doesn't solve this bottleneck. So with a bit more modern game you can easily see performance of V4 4500 / V5 5500 and V5 6000 more or less the same. But you can get 4x AA for free.
