I don't think R97 on reference 3dfx V4 is the same one as on PowerColor. Its position on the PCB is different and I believe it is not AGP related. Anyway, I took some photos of that area, maybe it will help you.

TNT really should work with different (newer) drivers. At very least the FW 53.04 were good enough to run all the games and benchmarks in my test without much problems. Maybe some kind of incompatibility with SiS chipset? AGP driver not working properly? Also P4 3.06 is not officially supported on …

Some people claim their PowerColor V4 is working in 1.5V AGP 4/8x MB. Maybe it depends on PCB revision, who knows. Anyway the safe approach is to use only 3.3V capable motherboards with Evilking IV. It is rare piece of HW and it would be shame to kill it by using wrong MB. btw - there are other …

In Q3A the TNT2 really should be faster, imho. On the other hand, all 3DMarks and both GLQuake + Quake2 results are in line with my own benchmarks, which I performed few years ago. http://hw-museum.cz/benchmark-2-1.php

Some s462 boards are using the 12V P4 connector. These should have no issues even with modern PSU.

There are also PowerColor Voodoo3 3000 and 3500 http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/overseas.htm These are not as common as regular 3dfx/STB built V3. Other brands using different PCb design also exist, but it is almost impossible to get them.

I guess it is 92mm fan, actual diameter is 85mm. This Zalman design was very popular back in the day, there still exist many similar heatsinks.

My personal favourite chipset for P1 build is i430TX / i430HX, preferably on ATX-format MB... MVP3 and Aladdin V chipsets doesn't really offer anything useful for Pentium / Pentium MMX. Well, unless you really want to run AGP videocard.
