I only can tell you that some D3D8 games too are badly in need of help, on Windows > 8, cause the old 3DAnalyse can't work on nowdays platforms and some odd pixel shader 1.1/1.4 code can't run correctly. Mech 3 1.2 (not the expansion Pirate's Moon!) has a similar problem: pressing "ESC" in game causes a CTD if - in the windows registry - the higher resolutions (1280x1024) are forced. Fixed the issue!
