Re: Random ?Gibberish in Another Forum :

Ok, here's an image of the apostrophe errors I mentioned above: http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8239/8602590994_352a668f52_o.png That is how it is displayed when I visited this site. Of course, many do not see this error. I don't know why. Was using XP, Firefox (latest as of today). EDIT : Only …

Re: WASD or arrow keys?

in Milliways
In the early days, when there were no configurable keys, I just use the arrow keys, and spacebar. And not to mention those odd games implementing O-P for left-right, and A-Z for up and down respectively. For platform, action and arcade games, I still tend to use the arrow keys and the Ctrl-Alt-Shift …

I once thought of announcing or marking my "286"-th, "386"-th and "486"-th post at the bottom of the respective posts last time, but forgotten. Then there were 384-th, 512-th, 640-th, 1024-th posts that I forgot to mention. But I guess the numbers 286, 386 and 486 are more "nostalgic", along with …

Re: windows8

The quirks or Windows 8 wouldn't be an issue, if Microsoft did not intend to end the "life support" for Windows 7. But still, updates will be available for Windows 7 till 2020. There is no reason to jump into using Windows 8 yet, just because it's the latest OS. I'm sure Windows 9 will be released …

The problem is that tablets and desktops don't mix. Multitasking and Multi-Windows are important for a desktop environment. Unfortunately MS decided to design the interface for people like the teens who are seen swiping away at their smartphones and tablets at the restaurant.

Re: Roland Mt-32 Emulation in Ms-Dos 6.22

in Milliways
Most sound cards during the "wavetable" explosion era support MT-32 emulation via patch banks or maps. They follow the instrument numbers enumerated by the MT-32 exactly, but they don't sound the same in most games, since there are other factors coming into play. For instance, games reuquiring " …

Re: Game skills you really suck at?

in Milliways
I don't know if I suck at, or just plain hate the 3D platform jumping over bottomless void or something that can kill the player if fallen. I seem to suck at economic simulations and/or micromanagement of commerce and development, like in most games by Impressions - somehow I tend to go downhill …

I really love XP's logo. Even Win 3.x's logo looks much better. 😉 It's like Microsoft is really pushing forward the trademark of their famous/infamous Windows' tendency of BSOD - Blue Screen 'O Death with their Win8. 🤣

Ah yes, Microprose! I feel special growing up with Microprose's Simulations. Their games have always remained as my all time favourites. I still have a shelf lined up by the Microprose's Simulations. Serious combat flight sims, thick manuals, quality products. And also great Strategy titles of all …

For those who are contemplating whether to upgrade to Windows 8 or not, here are some considerations : 1. If currently running Windows XP, the official extended support ends in 8th April 2014, and if XP is the main OS being used, it might be wise to upgrade to Windows 8, and that too, can wait unitl …

Re: Pulling my hair out

For the second problem : Looks like the boot flag is missing. Dos and Win9x's FDISK can't set a non-primary partition as active. Boot with a DOS 6.22 boot disk. Check the contents of the "C:" drive. If it's the DOS partition, try entering "SYS C:", provided SYS.EXE file is in the boot disk, to …

Re: Seeking soundcard/headphone advice

The newer sound ICs on the motherboard nowadays have started to blur the difference in audio quality with add-in boards. They are quite impressive and most new motherboards will support a Dolby Digital codec right out of the box, especially in those from the two companies going head to head against …
