I don't think Blizzard thought of the fact that DOS could exist without a drive 😉. Even if you use a bootdisk, Warcraft II would be able to detect that.

You need to mount a hard drive too - you start set up but set up can't find any hard drive which is probably why it crashed. It can only detect the CD drive.

This won't be fixed. So we'll be stuck with the tiny resolution? It makes it virtually useless in windowed mode then though unless you drastically lower Windows resolution (which doesn't really help its looks on any LCD screen). Odd - that never worked for me when I tried the latest CVS. That never worked at all. In the cvs change the machine= to vgaonly (NOT vga). That's what I just said I tried :P It does not work! I just tried it again with today's CVS and nope, still got the corruption even if I change it to vgaonly. …

Terminator comes with a nice set up program that let's you test the sound before starting the game and it nearly always detects the right settings correctly.

Also, the priority of Dosbox (Normal, High) affects the sound skipping too - it's set to high by default for me.

Music skipping usually one of two things - you have other software running besides Dosbox that takes CPU power away which causes the skipping at certain times (for example, a virus scan) - you set the cycles too high/low. Also, pre-0.70, music and sound skipped a lot more I noticed.

I remember trying to get this to work on my old P166. I had a serial mouse and a PS2 mouse but I never got it to work - I'm not even going to try with Dosbox 🤣

Alone in the Dark uses CD music as music, so the best thing to do is make a bin/cue file out of your CD and use imgmount to mount it.

To Dosbox, there's only a Z and a F drive the way you did things - you need to create a hard drive for the game to get installed to! Mount a folder as hard drive.

I personally don't like pointing to a real CD drive if it involves multiple CDs - it doesn't always work. I think it's due to the label not changing along with the CDs mounted so some games which look at the label to determine the CD (Under a Killing Moon for example) might not work. Also, swapping …

Sounds like you got a crap keyboard. We used to have that problem a lot in the early 90s when cheap keyboard didn't accept input of several keys at once - and often it was only certain combinations that caused issues.

I agree. IF you want to use abandonware games, which most of us do, at least make sure you know how to handle ripped games. There's nothing worse than spending ages trying to discover a problem which is caused by a bad rip instead of Dosbox.

Underdogs uses a cracked and ripped version which I had trouble getting to run myself since Westwood uses some weird stuff to protect their games so I wouldn't count on it too much I'm afraid unless you set it up exactly the way it's supposed to.

Ooo those early days. I thought about this too because it just seems cool to use. Now if only the games that made use of it, still were played 😉. I doubt Sierra's servers are still up 😜
