Agreed, find one you like. I use a Dell QuietKey RT7D5JTW on my main desktop for daily use and it's great. Feels like a lesser Model M of sorts. I almost exclusively use 3COM 3C509 or 3C905 cards for my retro builds. Though for my next build I went with a CNet E2000C plus which uses an UM9007F chip. It has Windows 3.x/9x/NT4 drivers available so it should be fine.

Found an HP Pavilion 7270 system with a hard drive and boots up to Windows 95 on ebay. 166MHz Pentium, 2.5GB drive, CD + floppy. $19 + 19.95 shipping so it cost just under $40. Added a cheap ISA ethernet card, 64MB EDO RAM, and a Number Nine Imagine 128 Series 2 4MB PCI card for $10 shipped.

I live on Long Island, NY and there's next to nothing good in my local thrift stores. Mostly overpriced Pentium 4 PCs ($40? 🤣) and generic crappy keyboards

Thanks! I am pretty sure it came stock from the ebay seller and it's a Celeron 1GHz 128MB RAM so those look like stock from the factory to me. I ordered the sound card and PCI gfx card for it. It's an IBM NetVista 6347-K3U

A Dell Optiplex GX1 I found on eBay but it has no PSU and HD. That's fine cause I have extras of those and the right power supply for it too. Punched the service tag on Dell's site and it has 500MHz Pentium III Slot 1, 128MB RAM (at least, the pictures show all 3 banks filled so likely has more). …

Another alternative is a third party boot manager, such as System Commander 7, that would allow you to install MS-DOS on a 2nd drive/partition.
