Here is an Atlona unit that should do the same thing. ATLONA AT-DP400 Maybe that one is available closer to where you are. Looks like there are a few on eBay. This unit has been discontinued by Atlona.

Sounds to me like the card either needs to have new capacitors installed and/or you are getting a lot of ISA bus noise. Either can be easily fixed. Pics of your motherboard?

Anybody knows what RAM to plug in? Is it just DIP chips, or is it SIP modules? You need SIPP modules for this one. In addition the bottom slot might be a slot for some proprietary RAM upgrade card. If you don't have any SIPPs you can always solder pins to a 30 pin SIMMs... Or use 30-pin SIMM …

Did you unplug and replug all cables? Just because the look fine doesn't mean that they have a good connection. My guess is that the drive was flakey from the get go and shipping it just did it in.
