Above 512MB is not the problem. I was using a 8GB CF card with the AMI BIOS on the 1.4 board and it detected it just fine. On the 1.7 board with the AWARD BIOS (late 1994), it sees it as about 1.5GB.

Well, my v1.7 board works. Swapped over the 512KB cache from my 1.4 board as well. However, the AWARD BIOS on the 1.7 doesn't support as large of HDDs as the AMI BIOS on the 1.4 board. Sound Blaster 32 (which are more or less cut-down AWE32s with always CQM and no built-in RAM IIRC. Yes, it's got AWE support, but it's not on the AWE brand. Many OEMs, i.e. Micron, loved to include this card) But it is the CT3600 variant with 512KB onboard RAM. I have at least one of these as well.

Try adjusting the CAS latency... The lower the better. Is there a setting for DRAM Timing that is faster than Fast? Can you disable DRAM integrity mode? Note.. the first two can lead to instability songs ready to reset the BIOS if it fails to POST. Only change one at a time.

So this is fun... I can't find ANY information about the Pentium III version. You may want to back up both discs and upload them to archive.org. It would probably be really easy to fix. I bet all that would need to be done is to edit the binary of the executable to jump past the CPU check.

I would not trust the SATA power connectors one bit. They are a crappy design in the first place and if you get a poor connection you can end up melting the connector, especially using it on a higher load.
