Sounds like a faulty sound card to me. You wouldn't happen to have another system you can test it in do you?

What are your system specs? Specific brand and model of motherboard please. Does it have the latest available BIOS installed? Do you have the chipset drivers for your motherboard installed? It kinda sounds like you don't since you say that the first thing you are trying to do is get the sound card …

Try editing the SETUPDS.INI to change the IRQ to 7 instead of 5 but my guess is that DSDMA is freaking out the board because of having more than 512MB of RAM. What is the brand and model of motherboard you are using? Please also post the contents of config.sys.

If you want your Live! to sound even better, install the Audigy drivers on it. Of course you have to do the driver install manually after extracting the files from the Audigy driver installer, but it does work. They fixed a lot of issues in the Audigy drivers as well as increased the output quality …

You can't configure the amount of available RAM, it is auto-detected. You don't have to completely fill up the RAM with soundfonts though.
