Re: GUS PnP clone (AM78C201AKC) issue in MSDOS demos

Slow memory can lead to noise AFAIK, but that doesn't seem to be the issue here. The TEA6330T fader on the Compaq cards caused incompatibilities for that card, but that doesn't seem to be the case either. Do games run correctly? And software like Impulse Tracker? Can you try to run ULTRINIT for GF1 …

Re: No-name ES688F card: Time to ditch it?

As cyclone3d said it's probably the jumpers. If you don't have the manual that came with the card it's going to be a pain. Perhaps this will help: https://arvutimuuseum.ee/th99/i/I-L/51695.htm Your card does have a lot going for it if it works properly; "true" OPL3, SB Pro support, wavetable header …

Re: Graphics card for Pentium Pro build

feipoa wrote: Was your card PCI or AGP? PCI. I just downloaded all Savage4 drivers they offered, didn't try this driver myself. For NT4 I have the attached, didn't try it myself and not sure in what ways it would differ with Diamond drivers.

Re: Graphics card for Pentium Pro build

So far, I'm pretty disappointed with the Quake 2/3 results. They are horrific on the G450 with the PPRO-233. Well below the G200. But the Quake 1 results are VERY high, as if the driver has been tweaked for GLQuake but not Quake 2/3. I'm going to have to play with old driver versions, which are …

Re: Graphics card for Pentium Pro build

The Matrox OpenGL fix for the G200 meant extracting the correct ICD from the G400 driver package and overwrite the one in your Windows folder. https://www.vogonswiki.com/index.php/Matrox#G200 But I don't know if replacing the G450 ICD with the G400 ICD would work/fix anything.

Re: Graphics card for Pentium Pro build

Ahh, I think I know what you mean. There was a daughter card for the G200 with a standard DVI port though. I think there's a photo of it somewhere on Vogons, circa ~8 years ago. According to the manual there were DFP and P&D (VESA Plug & Display) options. The P&D connector looks like a DVI …

Re: Graphics card for Pentium Pro build

There's a recent video comparing the Matrox G400 to the S3 Savage4. And for nearly all tests, the G400 beat the Savage4 by a factor of 4. Not sure what system was used though, sure something faster than a PPRO. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=442140#p442140 Rawit: Is the chili logo from your …

Re: Graphics card for Pentium Pro build

I thought I recall Swaaye mentioning that the Matrox G200 wasn't too bad for DOS game support and that this is a common misconception. The G200 with the Flat Panel add-on was one of the cards I've tried for my build. The findings in Gona's chart are correct, but of course this a small selection of …

Re: GF1 Versus InterWave

Though as I've explained on VCForums, I don't believe any software made use of any of these features aside from the emulation and demo apps that shipped with the PnP cards. As mentioned, Cubic Player can use the Interwave in Interwave and GF1 mode. Also the following software has Interwave support: …

Re: VGA cards that predate VESA

That's going to be difficult as manufactures already dabbled with alternate resolutions quite early, like with your Paradise card. I would focus on cards < 1989. Perhaps these are interesting, but need additional research: - Oak OTI-037C; - Genoa GN007001-A; - Cirrus Logic CL-GD410/420; - Cirrus …
