InertiaPlayer uses GUS RAM, not sure about hardware mixing though.

In my Win95 machine there's Matrox G200. I haven't yet seen any problems with it. Is it supposedly incompatible with some dos games? According to https://gona.mactar.hu/DOS_TESTS/ and my own limited experience it's not as compatible in DOS as an S3. Can confirm Jazz Jackrabbit not working and Lotus …

I can recommend a S3 Savage4. Matrox G200 series is less compatible, both both cards have helpfull DOS utilities available and do well in Windows.

I'm afraid it's the infamous VLB instablility, seeing you already swapped cards and tried different settings. Can you move the VLB card as close as possible to the CPU and the soundcard as far away as possible to see if that has any effect? Hopefully one of the VLB experts on Vogons can advise you …

I'm not sure what things you can set but often higher numbers = slower when it comes to RAM. But I understand it doesn't make much of a difference. Do you have another VLB card you can test with and which card are you currently using?

Do you have video shadow and/or palette snoop options in your BIOS? Try disabling both. Are you able to apply more modest memory timings if possible? See if that makes a difference. I wonder if it's some kind of memory corruption by DMA transfers.

"WBCP511.exe for core BIOS 10/10/94". I don't have that file but I do have a 10/10/94 AMI BIOS utility, see attached file. Never used it so can't help you with that.

I'll attempt that, just have to disable the EMM386 and HIMEM.SYS memory drivers from config.sys to make the IGP work and I'll post the results. Do you need to disable both? Or does disabling EMM386 suffice? I wonder if it's caused because it's using a memory range belonging the video BIOS shadow. …

In that case check if you have all the SMK files and try defaulting to 320x200 to see if that makes a difference.

To me it does sound like a reduced pitch, I've heard Doom's E1M1 track quite often. Do you have printer ports enabled and do they sit at the same IRQ as the GUS?

For Impulse Tracker I need to check it when I'm back home. I checked the video and it seems some parts of the FX are also cut off. Did you try reseating the memory?

I have no idea if all GF1 chips are interchangeable, I do hope that isn't the problem. I had speed issues myself with my GUS ACE, but they were caused by: 1) Matrox videocard with digital output @60hz. Timings derived from the video signal were all messed up; 2) CuteMouse interfering with music …

Can confirm that MediaGXm chipsets have issues with CuteMouse 1.9 and 2.1, giving delays in some software. 2.0 seems to work without issues though, it bypasses the BIOS. You can try that, and perhaps try out a different mouse to see if that helps.
