Re: Which XP?

WinFLP was meant to do one thing: be a client OS for Remote Desktop. Most of XP's standard services are removed or disabled by default. It doesn't even have Paint or Calc (or both, don't remember exactly) and it's missing joy.cpl, among other things. And when you reenable missing but useful services …

Re: Blood - no menu text

I've never encountered such a problem with Blood. Maybe the game itself is corrupted. The only real problem with Blood on DOSBox 0.74 is that 320x400 graphics is broken. This seems to be fixed in SVN.

Re: Which XP?

What about x64 keys? What about them? I'm almost sure x86 and x64 keys for Windows XP are not interchangeable. Technically, Windows XP x64 is not a 64-bit version of 32-bit Windows XP. It's a client version of Windows Server 2003, rebranded as XP. Kernel version is higher (5.2 vs 5.1) and you …

Re: Slowest Desktop Processor For Windows 10

I'm using Dell Latitude D520 with a Core Duo running Windows 10 32bit but still it is not that slow. Well, we should distinguish "slowest" from "oldest". If "slowest" is wanted, then we should look at some single-core no-hyperthreading CPUs, like Prescott-era Celerons, or something with low clock …

Re: Slowest Desktop Processor For Windows 10

It runs surprisingly well with low resources and everything is pretty much auto-detected or gets picked up by update. Well, that doesn't always work as it should. On my Intel Atom netbook Windows 10 constantly wants to update the drivers, and the new ones have fewer options (gfx) or are less stable …

Re: Slowest Desktop Processor For Windows 10

Don't know if it helps, but I refurbished two Core 2 Duo machines with DDR3 memory and I put Windows 10 on both of them and they run perfectly happy. Both CPUs are Wolfdale. Check on the specs below if you don't believe me. Well, I still use Core 2 Quad as my main machine (It's 10 years old now but …

Re: CD Dos games that uses midi as music?

in DOS
Blood (midi is better than the CDDA) Agree, MIDI are sounds are beautiful, but CD music on same game is really spooky... Hmm. I like CD music more. Maybe Warcraft? Warcraft 2 definitely had both though War2 for DOS has MIDI music. War2 for Windows has the same tracks rendered as mp3 or similar.

Re: How does an x86 CPU swtich from 16 to 32bit mode?

in Milliways
Unless you want to write your own OS (which is exciting but extremely hard), use a DOS extender. You can write protected mode programs in C or C++ using DJGPP and OpenWatcom. If you want pure assembly, NASM will work with both - yes I tried. There's also Free Pascal that uses the same extender as …
