Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Okay I am dealing with a really weird issue. I have made three of the five cards that I have the parts for. This usually means something else in the system is using port 330 or IRQ 9. Is there a sound card installed? When running the config utility, you need to specify the port if it is not set to …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

That "reset problem" probably needs only slight delay on reset pulse. I had 2 HardMPU boards with different capacitors - this was enough for one to work reliably, while other was glitchy. Hm, ok. Which capacitor? There isn't a RC delay on the reset line as the reset signal comes from the ISA bus, …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I recently got hung note using HardMPU and a midi score (SamnMax Hit the Road), using multiple external midi devices. Switching to the MT32 score and MUNT and the issue went away. No idea if HardMPU is the problem, have used it without issues on many other games. The creator of HardMPU would need …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

And now the bracket along with the adapter for the ECHO MIA MIDI breakout cable is all done, it's so nice :D Doing this in Eagle meant that the PCB could be easily put into Fusion 360 so I could make up the bracket. I think I used the wrong gender of connector for the pinout, I had more of the …

monsterbaldy wrote on 2020-05-26, 16:40: Hardmpu is reporting 330, Aztech mpu401 is reporting 300. But honestly, I am not sure how much I trust the aztech. 330, that's what I meant 😁 What happens if you try it without the Aztech card in there?

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

The hardmpu.com utility doesn't use the IRQ, so my money is on an I/O port conflict. Port 330 is the default for a MPU401, so are you sure the Aztech card isn't using that?

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

That would be great if you can do that without increasing costs a lot. Daughterboards hanging off the edge is my biggest issue with the Roland MPU-401/AT. It just looks so flimsy. Just noticed that you mentioned that you can switch MIDI output between the daughterboard and external connector via …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

You should find all the info needed from this and following posts : https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=777020#p777020 That does help, thank you! I'm going to do some measurements to see what it would take to do this. I don't think it would increase costs much to make the board larger since it …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Looks awesome! I really like the audio connector, good idea! If I may suggest something, could you add some drill holes in the PCB, so that you can use PCB standoffs to securely fasten the daughterboard to the HardMPU? Also, would a full-sized daughterboard like the SCB-55 or DB50XG …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

Can you summarize the differences? Sure, there's not a lot. - Added a wavetable header. There is a CD audio style connector for audio out, to either be connected to a sound card or wired up to a 1/8" audio connector. MIDI output can be switched between the external connector and the wavetable …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I'm wondering if maybe my card is defective :( Unfortunately I doubt it's that simple. The way the interface works, the issue would most likely affect more than just the one game if that were the case. I'm going to do some more testing, maybe it is a speed issue and I just haven't found the right …

Re: HardMPU, anyone?

I finally got a chance to test WC II on my machine at home. I don't seem to have the same issue as you, so I'm thinking an IRQ conflict might be likely. I'll spend some more time playing with different speeds and BIOS settings over the next few days to see if I can replicate the issue. I'm curious, …
