If the chip has "3D" boldly on it, it's not very good at it. (edit: but not, as seen above, completely terrible either 😀 )

Looking at some chip info, the Mobility 9700 is the same die (RV360) as the 9600XT.

Looks like Vibra128 is a late devolution of the Ensoniq AudioPCI - if you want to go that way you might as well get an Ensoniq version. For Win98 either the 5700 or 5600XT iff 45.23 can be talked into unofficially running on it.

Back to OP, the later thin clients (like a Dell/Wyse 5060 and 5070) are capable of driving even 4K displays OK, and pretty cheap.

None for Coppermine, which are the best ones. The 430HX is in many ways the best intel Socket 7 chipset (with full tag SRAM it can cache over 64MB)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_604 also lasted a very long time - from 2002 to 2008 (Dunnington), and compatible with Socket 603 (early P4 Xeon).

Agreed - at current prices they're expendable - and it's not like floppy disks didn't fail either! (But it's still better to get quality cards and reduce e-waste IMO.)

I googled up an ixbt review and they used a 3.06 - it depends on the chipset's stepping aparently. The 2.8/1mb/533 was basically a Celeron (low FSB, no HT, but still 103W TDP) with full cache IMO. A 'good' match for cripppled/factory ewaste models such as the Dell Dimension 3000 IMO...

I was at a DMV today and the line queue screens had a Windows 11 update nag screen on. Annoying that, but I was a bit surprised that the computer was new enough to qualify for the upgrade.

I don't see anything exciting about it. x86 or ARM doesn't matter much at this point. Both are very old CPU architectures with piles of legacy stuff and workarounds. 64bit ARM is a significant reset that axed most of those... at least once 32-bit support is removed, which Apple has done and ARM's …

IIRC the best versions were the ES1370's with Tantalum caps, basically before Creative got their grubby cost-reducing hands all over them.

Back to the GW to check for more media and got 150 DVD blanks for $10. They have a shelf full of unopened various brands DVD+R and some DVD-R for $3 or $4 for 50 packs or $7 or $9 for 100 packs. The little 25 packs were also $3.... Any body need some DVD media for cheap ? These are what I left on …

For a few years (~2010-14 or so?) there were very few new laptops with better screens than a 15" IPS T60, and through the mid 10's there was still much worse out there that cost a lot more.

That P4i945GC w/SL7Q8 combination is puzzling, since they negate what the other part of the combo is good for (Northwood diehards who want PCI-e and DDR2, and people who want 64bit support on an AGP board 😉 ) I guess they got the CPU's cheap...
