Re: Monkey Island 1&2: Roland MT-32 + Sound Blaster support

in DOS
By sheer coincidence, I have just gone thru the patching process on a Win 7 machine, transferred the files to a Vectra M2 DX4/100 running DOS 6.22 and the game works fine, CM-32L plays the music and the speech works flawlessly on an SB Pro compatible Acer Magic S23. Are you referring to the patch …

Re: awe64 - no sound

Admittedly, I did not read this whole thread. Just want to add to check the physical RCA jacks on the back of the AWE 64. I had a couple of tight RCA cables and pulling them in and out did something to the jacks, I now have to keep an AT -> PS2 adapter between the RCAs and my VGA cable in order for …

Re: "Best" OPL3 Card

Yup, that's the one. Understood on the function of it. Thanks for the suggestion. Still curious on the below point in case it got lost up there. Really appreciate all the help and suggestions. Thanks so much. EDIT: Is this an ideal revision of the Pro 2? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Creative-Sound- …

Re: "Best" OPL3 Card

Does your SS7 board have an SB-Link connector? What board is it? If you like the YMF718 card (Audician32), then you can replace it with a PCI YMF724, YMF744 or YMF754 with SB-Link connectors. This will release an ISA slot for something else. If you just want the most authentic, just get a SB Pro 2. …

Re: "Best" OPL3 Card

Best how? Best support? best DAC? most options? Best price? Most authentic sounding card, based on older DOS, non-MIDI games, the way the composers intended. Support would def be secondary, but maybe not as relevant if I do go with 2 cards. Although, again, I only have 2 ISA slots and am picking up …

brostenen wrote: Start with the Audician32. The UK seller "Evercase" http://stores.ebay.com/KM-T-A-Evercase?_rdc=1 ships fast. Thanks, purchased. Not that I'm dying to part ways with money, but seems very inexpensive. Any drawbacks? Any reason to get the wavetable add-on given that I have all the …

Re: "Best" OPL3 Card

The CT2230s you've listed aren't bad, they're quiet. However they also only play in mono if SB-PRO is selected in games and have the single-cycle DMA bug. ... There are better options out there than Creative's cards... Exactly why I posted, so thank you. Any recommendations for specific cards? If …

Re: "Best" OPL3 Card

Really appreciate all the info so far....very helpful. I've already got all the MIDI hardware, so that's a non-issue for me. My thought was that I'd use Keropi's MPU project card along with an internal card with an OPL3 chip. I thought that all meant I could eliminate the AWE64 Gold. Not that I'm …

"Best" OPL3 Card

Hi Guys and Gals, I know this is completely subjective, but curious about your recommendations. I currently have a SS7 build with an MT-32 (old), CM-32L and an SC-55 MKII. I'm using an AWE 64 Gold ISA as my sound card and as my MIDI interface. I'm in the process of ordering one of Keropi's MPU-401 …

Re: Terminator Resets Machine

in DOS
No one is making bad points, but just comment on this one point from my perspective: The Terminator is an old DOS game, I couldn't get it to work, I post in the section that says, "Getting old DOS games working" (non-DOSBox) Just directly answer how that should have gone differently? Also of note is …

Re: TEAC FD-505 Config?

One last try (bump). I ended up opening up a 5.25" drive that I picked up for $5 at an antique show. It was complete in the box including the VHS tape instructions. Pleasantly surprised that it had actually never been used. Completely brand new, even with the cardboard sheet to fill the drive during …

Ha, never new it stood for that. Thought it was just the Hitchhiker's reference. Seems like a good portion of the activity on the site is retro HW focused. Maybe the site evolves based on the interests of the members.
