Note that on XP Home, the game folders must be located beneath "Shared Files" (or whatever it is called in your language). On XP Home, that's the only location that's accessible for multiple users. DOSBox itself doesn't need write permission for it's directory.

If you install through windows and then run through DOSBox, games may search for their files in the wrong directory. Either install through DOSBox, or make sure that the game's path inside DOSBox is the same as outside.

I just use it. No special configuration neccessary, an average dosbox.conf works. Did you install the GUS drivers inside DOSBox?

Since some operating systems have vector formats for their native icon format, a vector drawing would indeed be better. If you wonder who may be using 128x128 icons - think of high-resolution LCD displays, these even exist on windows, and are common on macs.

After switching to dynamic core (that's the one you should try), you should increase your cycles, otherwise you won't notice anything. The whole point of dynamic core is that it works with higher cycles.
