Have you checked the connector on the system Board for any damage or bent pins?

A 300 gig SCSI drive sounds like a great idea to me. And I'd be Leary of using the death Star just in case it decides to die on you.

I'd replace that cap first. Putting the card in an oven can kill it I'd suggest against doing that.

From the picture that board looks clean it's hard to tell but I doesn't look like the battery has leaked yet.

I just looked over your pictures and it looks like the cap at c63 might have a crack in the top it's hard to tell what the lines are.

I have the golden orb slot A cooler on a 950 MHz Athlon over clocked to 1050Mhz and it cools it beautifully I'm using artic silver 5 it's been setup that way since 2008 when the system was in use a POS system at my mom's restaurant.
