If it's interesting to you, I suggest you find a local maker space, amateur radio club, or something similar with an environment to work with and learn about electronics fundamentals and repair.

Unless you're heavily interested in building period correct machines, I wouldn't bother. Using old hard drives means slower disk operations and more hardware failures. For me, that takes valuable time away from having fun.

Roughly comparable to a first generation Core 2 Duo CPU. They're quite useful for modern computing if equipped with enough RAM.
