Yes. You may have resource conflicts, but this can be managed by appropriate resource selection and/or hardware profiles. You can select your choice of I/O in Windows sound settings. The outputs will either have to be daisy chained (from card to card), switched, or connected through a mixer.

You could certainly install an ISA card. The SB on that motherboard should also work fine with ESS PCI cards and possibly Yamaha PCI cards.

Again, those are Fuhjyyu caps. They effectively have no safe service life and need to be replaced for that PSU to deliver clean, reliable power. Fuhjyyu caps are also known to test bad without any bulging or leakage, so don't assume anything based on appearances.

I reject this idea of Retro PCs requiring Retro Hardware. Retro PCs are used to do retro things. From that perspective, S939 systems, new build FPGA based C64 emulators, PCem, etc. all count.

DId you use raw ALSA or a sound server? Also, what polyphony are you running in Fluidsynth? I reduce this to avoid sound buffer under runs. As far as MT-32 message SYSEXs, I modified mt32d to display them on a 16x2 (will be 20x2) LCD display via WiringPi.

For instance, a Pi would be interesting as an IDE device emulator. It could convert over the wire IDE commands to allow use of files as storage volumes streamed over a network, or mounted from USB or SD. Ideally, it would emulate both IDE and ATAPI devices.
