I do understand that the ESSFM supersedes the OPL3 - but I quite simply can't get anything to output sound on an OPL3 setting so far. Nothing crashes or anything, there's just no sound.

Well, considering I'm fairly certain my old PCI FX5500 wasn't allowing even my old Willamette P4 fully stretch it's legs, I'd say it's be a serviceable match for a relatively high clock speed P3

I've always gone with about a pea sized amount in the center and put on the heatsink. That said I believe Arctic Silver 5 is conductive, so you might want to spread a thin layer on the CPU instead to minimize any spillage to prevent shorting out anything.

I'm having a hard time finding AM Stereo stations here in Southern Ontario - but it's also a bit temperamental with FM Stereo at the moment too. Probably need to do some adjustments at some point.

It looks like it's a DirectX 6 card, and lacks TnL. It'd likely be a solid card for games up to about 1999/2000 or so.

Hilariously enough I ran a PCI Geforce FX 5500 for the longest time, with an early Pentium 4. It worked... Mostly. At lower res and with DX8.1 or older games. Edit: I also ran Half-Life on a PCI Radeon 9250 and that ran okay.

I know Mechwarrior 3 is at best unreliable on anything not 9x based. It'll work, but it often crashes to a grey screen or crashes outright.

The issue with any of these cards is that they're all PCI cards. None of them will work terribly well for DOS, with very spotty compatibility. You might be able to use the Ensoniq/Creative PCI DOS TSRs to get some level of compatibility with the CT4670 or CT4830 - see Phil's video on the Ensoniq …

I wouldn't worry too much about period correct hard drive sizes - newer will be usually more reliable and usually faster, and the larger it is the more games you can install on it.
