Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

For now I suggest the 'Pure' setting, but I would like to confirm the amount of headroom in the actual hardware MT-32. SC-VA has plenty of headroom, so much so that users complain about it being too quiet, but actually it has exactly the same amount of headroom as the hardware SC-55. Hardware MT-32 …

Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

Edit #2: After playing around some more, I have found that choosing "Pure" (DAC input mode) in Munt VSTi does get rid of the distortion, and lowers the volume slightly. But, if I then enable floating point, the volume goes back up and the distortion comes back, even with Pure still selected. So, in …

Re: Sound Blaster 16 Clones

Just got another ALS100Plus and can confirm that you *must* use a3init.exe so that volume levels get set correctly. PnP init is not enough. It will make the card work but with such a low volume that the background hiss is louder than the actual sound output. Interesting. What about the ALS100 (non …

Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

So there isn't a global Instrument Map on the SC-D70? Yes we can select a Map with LSB per instrument or patch, but will it remain after a Sysex GS reset? If this indeed the case and there is no global map function that remains after a GM/GS reset, then Roland did a major poo-poo with the SC-D70.

DOSBox OPL cores are innaccurate

It has been told many times, but here it is once again. DOSBox OPL cores are inaccurate while NukedOPL is 1:1 with the hardware. I basically created a white noise using maximum feedback into square wave as the instrument in Adlib Tracker 2 and played it through various OPL cores. The fast core which …

Re: Duke3D SB16 emulation issues.

As a rule of thumb, if a game has GM (General Midi) or Sound Canvas option in its setup, it is the primary way the developers composed its music on; other options are usually a conversion. BUT, the FM version might sound more nostalgic to you because it is the only version you've heard back in the …

Re: Duke3D SB16 emulation issues.

Might be a stupid question, but in every case is General Midi > Soundblaster? No. There are games with their music that have been written specifically for the synthesizer chip on the SB cards called an OPL/FM chip. There are games that their music has been composed on a General Midi device, and …

Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

Falcosoft wrote: FSMP + DOSBox hot swapping Very Cool! I somehow missed that. I can also see MuntVsti 2.1 in the youtube video, anything new? @lukeman3000 Since SC-VA takes a few seconds to load, you might want to use it in SAVIHost and use FSMP SYX Presets to send to it through LoopMIDI.

Re: Jill of the Jungle Sound Effects

in DOS
I have tested ver C and there are no bugs with Water/Lava/Switches. But ver D (episode 1 shareware) has all three animation problems. I don't have 1.2D trilogy, so I can only attest for 1.2C trilogy.

Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

Yes, I understand that the meters are PRE volume control and it's a good thing they are for indication, so the gain balance should be done with Munt internal Gain and Soundfonts volume. Also, with the hardware SC-55 or MT-32 hard clipping occurs with high velocity midis at the inputs of an Op-amp …

Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

So the solution for you is rather to use DAC Input mode 'Pure'. Thank you Falco, it definitely should be on 'Pure' in my book as an audio enthusiast. A lot of MT-32 games have high velocity midis and reach the red zone often, in my opinion there is nothing 'nice' or 'high quality' in clipped audio. …

Re: Roland SC-88 versus SC-88 Pro?

I really like how the SC-8820 sounds on practically anything. They fixed the standard drum kit snare to sound nice (because it sucks on the 88Pro) and made it resemble the 55 or 88 but less artificial and much punchier. So for a nicer than 55 and 88 GM set, I would skip the 88Pro altogether and go …

Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

I have notice that the VSTi MT-32 is much louder than standalone MUNT. VST MT-32 has much less headroom than standalone MUNT, because of that it distorts much sooner. You can also see the meters peaking red most of the time, that's not a good sign. For them to match, FSMP volume should be set to …

Re: Falcosoft Soundfont Midi Player

Looks and feels great, much more intuitive for new users. I really like how the VST menu is first in the list,, much more comfortable (for me) to reach it by mouse. Although I would put the VST Instrument before Effect 1, simply because how often it is used compared to the Effect slots. Don't remove …
