Most people were running 64 or 128 MB in 1999. The rich kids had 256 MB or more.

Someone posted a link to a great archive of these things, but they were all jpegs without option to download the original bitmap images. Don't convert old bitmaps to jpegs!

Do PCIe cards exist that combine USB 3.0 and SATA III functionality on a single card? I'm trying to pimp out an old machine, but due to slot limitations am having to choose between fast USB or fast hard drives.

Serial port connection is slower than parallel port, IIRC. However if you need to copy INTERSVR over the cable, you must use serial to do it. (You can connect parallel afterwards.) Have you tried another cable?

OT: is it normal for graphics cards to deliver audio over DVI? I just connected a HDMI-to-DVI adaptor cable to my card's DVI and I've got sound coming out of the port. I had no idea this was possible.

I would worry about cooling when putting graphic cards in machines that were not designed to take them.

Does Windows 2000 SP4 fit on 2 GB? It will be tight. ETA: I see that one of my computers has W2KSP4 on a 2 GB partition, however my notes say "boot partition is very full". This is without having to share the partition with another OS.

The Dell Inspiron 8000/8100 can take the 32 MB GeForce2 Go, and Inspiron 8200 can take 64 MB GeForce4 440 Go.

Oh yes, I remember that. I even bought a low ICQ number on fleabay for convenience. I remember some security scares which caused everyone to move to other systems. Apparently it was installing malware or something similar. It may have been FUD by the opposition, but everyone believed it.
