Someone here linked DOS USB drivers a time ago, but I remember testing them and finding them unreliable. IIRC, they only really work with DOS text mode programs (like MSD).

You need to get an older version of StarCraft to install on NT 4.0. I have 2001 and 2007 releases of SC+BW but only the first installs on NT 4.0 and Mac OS 9. The 2007 release refuses to install on both platforms.

You should have at least one for emergencies if your broadband goes down. Get an external model with serial connector.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2100/180 from 1996 with roughly similar specs. No AGP though. Was AGP a thing in 1996? ETA: just noticed this thread is a necro. Did the OP ever complete the build?

Those combo drives are seen by the BIOS as separate drives. Putting another drive on the cable won't work.

That's right, I've had to bend pins out of the way to connect newer USB cables to some older hardware.

A workaround I understand is to use a LS120 IDE drive for 3.5" floppies in addition to two standard 5.25" drives on the floppy controller. Has anyone done this? How do the drive letter assignments work?

Yes I do this when dealing with multiple identical or similar computers. e.g. instead of calling them "Proliant1", "Proliant2" etc. it's PEGASUS, PERSEUS, PERKELE etc. Easier to remember and reduces confusion.
