I bought two G200 AGP Millenniums some years ago on Fleabay and both were DOA. One had visible damage (missing surface mount components) but the other had no obvious problems.

For my Hi-Fi system I use one of those Realistic (i.e. Tandy) tape control centers. They may be over complicated for what you want though.

OT, but I have a Pentium II Xeon machine from 1999 that went completely berzerk when I plugged in a GeForce 8400 GS card. Among other things it scrambled the hard drive forcing me to reinstall Windows.

I know that old iMac G4s won't read DVD-R disks. This is a different headache. I have two of these machines with the same problem. CD-Rs are OK though. You have to connect a FireWire drive to boot from a DVD-R.

I had a similar problem years ago. Kept getting very clearly announced CDROM errors when installing the operating system. Swapped out drives, cables, controllers, disks. Still kept getting errors. Left memtest running out of frustration. 20 hours in, the errors started showing up. My best guess is …

I missed the radio broadcasts but I do remember the TV series, read the books in school, and played the game on my PC. I think I only finally listened to the radio shows when I got on the internet.

A faulty memory module can cause strange systemic problems that manifest anywhere. Overheating can also cause non-faulty memory modules to misbehave.

Right, I was reading about the history of Rambus. They got greedy. They thought they were going to lock down memory the way Intel and Microsoft had locked down microprocessors and operating systems. They began charging monopoly prices... before they actually had their monopoly.

Since it was mostly used to write software for the original PC it would be surprising if it didn't run on it. It will however be slow. Compiling big programs will be an ordeal.

You can turn an Inspiron 8000 into a 8100 by upgrading the CPU, memory, GFX card and installing a Wi-Fi antenna and adaptor. The two are otherwise the same. (Not the 8200 though).

I miss monitors with glass screens. Those were easy to clean. I like WWII combat flight simulators, and when I see a spot on the screen I always reach out and scratch the monitor to check if it's dirt or an enemy plane. (I guess actual pilots from the era had the same problem with dirty windows.)

You can run the game silently with this command: A2.COM E M N Within the game you can use F2/F3 to toggle music/sound.

Right, the original Arkanoid only has nasty beeper noise but the sequel has proper arcade music.
