Re: 486 VLB UMC-Chipset, what is it?

I can finally post an update about this 486 VLB system. It was in limbo for a long time. But I recently decided to just finish things in a quick way. Especially the interfacing at the front of the case, so I can put the cover on the case. I cheated using quick tie-rib fixtures. What changed since …

Re: Can't boot from a cloned SD card with NT4 SP4 installed

in Windows
Maybe my recent notes help you out? Yesterday I had the same trouble (again), with my 486 VLB system which is VERY picky about SD-cards being bootable. Contrary to, for example, a 440BX system. Using it with these Sintechi SD-IDE adapters. And I could not use a bootable floppy because the system …

Re: MS-DOS games using Microsoft 98SE Wavetable Synth

Since the ThinkPad 380Z has no gameport, you cannot attach hardware to the MPU-401's midi-pin. So that is like a dead-end. - You can try the VDMsound trick in the link, of course. - Maybe someone could tweak the driver configuration so it reverts to the microsoft sbemul.sys. I currently have no time …

Re: MS-DOS games using Microsoft 98SE Wavetable Synth

Sorry you are right. it seems; https://msfn.org/board/topic/182729-exist-a-sound-blaster-emulator-for-win9x/ win9x have integrated SB emulation for own dos vm. HKR,,NTMPDriver,,"sbemul.sys" HKR,Drivers,SubClasses,,"wave, midi, mixer" I suppose, back then, I was always using VXD drivers, and therefor …

Re: MS-DOS games using Microsoft 98SE Wavetable Synth

Yeah, the Windows 9x Dos Box does not have its own MPU-401 Midi interface, it is up to the sound card driver to supply such services. And even then, like 99% of these drivers do not allow you to freely route midi to a Software Synth of your liking. VDMsound can do it, but it is tricky and uncommon. …

Re: Retro Software Development?

What I meant by that comment was not that a forum for it here on Vogons did not ever end up getting created as a result of people asking for one (though, obviously that is true), but rather that whenever a topic comes up with people asking this question, the topic in question never ends up with a …

Re: Retro Software Development?

I've seen this topic has come up multiple times here on Vogons over the past few years, and it never seems to get a huge amount of traction. I am not in the loop or anything. But I Imagine the guy(s) making decisions about the vogons website direction, are not deciding things based on popularity. …

Re: VOGONS github

in Milliways
Looks like they are using Ubuntu w/ mingw for compiling which means default would be mingw non-posix so that may be the reason. For some reason I though github only supported Mingw via Msys, glad to be wrong. Wish more projects would default to cross compiling from *nix. Sigh. This weekend I tried …
