Thanks. Tweakbios shows amazingly few settings. Basically some DRAM, PCI, and L2 timings. I'm not motivated enough to pursue this further.

I could not see that you tried a different PSU. Do you have another one to try? To me it sounds like a PSU starting to go bad (still can power the weaker S3, but not the hungrier Voodoos).

Well, I feel dumb (clueless?). I tried the SB16 drivers from Creative's site and they don't have any problem recognizing the MPU-401 interface. I had been using the SB16 Vibra drivers from Vogons Driver Archive. Maybe the Vibra drivers intentionally don't build in support for this interface.
