But also you won't get anywhere near 8700k performance. :blush: I had 6-core SB-E (IB-E is pretty much the same) and upgrading that to 7700k was like a night and day. 8700K would crush old 2011 even in non-AVX MT friendly applications. 8700k would cost me 100% more, and that's without MB and DDR4. …

HD 5870/5850 ? HD 5750/5770/6770/6750 ? GTX 760/660 ? GTX 650 Ti Boost ? GTS 450 ? You got so many options for XP... I recommend going for low end stuff (x4x/x3x/x4xx/x3xx or lower), only if you are space (Low Profile) or power constrained (75W max).

I have never really found any use for anything faster than a GTX 285 when it comes to DX9 stuff in Windows XP. I would avoid such AGP / PCI-e motherboards.. You dont know how the PCI-e 1.0 slot is electronically connected to the motherboard.. The first irritations of such combo boards are mostly bottlenecked on the pci-e bus motherboards. Better go for N-force 4 boards or later.. Those have 100% faster PCi …

Why bother with Pentium 4 ? Just update BIOS (if you have old one), and buy a Pentium D 9xx (rev. "D0" would be best). PCI-e 1.0 x4 is fine for up to HD 5770/GTX 460.
