Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

My RAM is also higher clocked (44MHz effetive 😉), oh and Performance Level is at "5" instead of "7" (so IMC efficiency is a LOT better) + IMC itself is higher OC'ed (FSB straps are better). "HT off" may help a bit too, but I think it's mainly memory tweaking (+50MHz on core clock).

Re: HD4850 Weird Video Corruption

Other than cracked solder under VRAM/GPU, I guess it's either PCI-e slot (dirty/busted) or MB doesn't like this specific card. Crucial thing is to install drivers. If Windows doesn't even log-in to desktop - card is probably dead (oven-o-therapy could make it work). Check how it runs in other PC ( …

Re: Bought this (Modern) hardware today

Totally jealous. I want an exotic high-end overclocking x58 board :dead: :depressed: Although all that power filtering and only 1 power port for the cpu power. I don't plan on going LN2 any time soon, so I don't think second 8-pin EPS is needed. ASUS "fixed" that "problem" on Rampage III …

Re: Video card for fallout3?

I've read of problems with some PCIe 2.0 cards on some PCIe 1.x boards. I guess motherboards vary. Indeed, but since they work on something as funky as ASRock AGP/PCI-e (with few BIOS tweaks, more : LINK ). I think they are "OK" in compatibility department (if they don't start, you can blame MB/ …

Re: Video card for fallout3?

I had read that PCIe 1.x motherboards had problems with PCIe 2.0 and newer cards, but that Abit AN8 seems cool with them. I ran GTX 780 Ti in S939 without issues, proof : LINK Problem with PCI-e 1.x boards starts with PCI-e 3.0 GPU's. Since both Fermi cards (GTX 4xx/5xx) and Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx …

Re: Video card for fallout3?

Budget option : GTS 450 GDDR5 or Radeon HD 5750. Radeons HD 5770/6770 are good for a bit higher performance. For DX10 hardware, I would go for 9600 GT or GTX 260 "216p"/275/285 (55nm versions, depending on price). Forget about 8800/9800/GTS 250, you risk taking "GPU cooking lessons 101". Radeons …

Re: My 3DMark01 Mega Thread

Good score, but that crazy 5.1GHz PEE still hasn't exactly matched my top K8 score. I mean, sure, the frame rates are really close in most of the tests, but the Opty is still quite a bit faster in the low detail Dragothic and high detail Lobby tests. And it's doing this with plain old DDR1. …

Re: SSAA with Radeons in Windows 98?

Isn't it default (FSAA = SSAA in old games), if game doesn't support MSAA ? I think you know, but doing SSAA on Radeon 9550 will instant kill playable FPS (depending on game and VRAM configuration). Q : Why not use high resolution monitor (one with 1600:1200 support), and use it to simulate 800x600 …
