Re: FLAC support

One more case for BIN / CUE, which uses WAV, is that you can quickly burn it onto disc, mount it in a virtual CD drive as well as in DOSBox. But yes, it does use more space, but IMO storage is so cheap and plenty, I wonder if it's such a big deal? As I said earlier: You have to take into …

Re: FLAC support

I don't follow the logic behind the DOSBox being an emulator of older systems and therefore should only support older formats. I think you got we wrong here: I didn't mean to say DOSBox should only support old file formats for compressed audio. Actually, FLAC (v1.0 released 2001) is even older that …

Re: FLAC support

It is also a question of future-proofing for the next generations. Ultimately having a lossless format to listen to, transcode and sample from is the optimal way of preserving audio videogame history. There really is no reason not to support the superior format considering the ever increasing hdd …

Re: FLAC support

Heroes 2 from GOG uses 85 kbps on the ogg tracks, nobody complained yet. :) Really? That bitrate is so low that one definitely must hear the difference (unless you're half deaf ) Is it a variable bitrate? In that case, you can't always trust what is shown in it's properties because it changes …

Re: FLAC support

To be honest, I don't see any necessity for FLAC support. I convert my games that have redbook audio to OGG files with a fixed bitrate of 320 KByte/s (GOG only uses 256 or maybe even 192 kbyte/s) and I don't hear absolutely any difference between those and the CD audio. I'm pretty sure most of us …

Re: DOSBox SVN Builds

I downloaded his source and compared it to the source of the current SVN. Since his code is so much older, almost every (if not every) file has changed since then. The changes sum up to a diff file with over 300.000 lines! And since I'm no programmer neither I can't say for sure which changes really …

Re: DOSBox SVN Builds

Just to let you know: I updated the current enhanced build my adding the latest version (Alpha 4) of Ant_222's pixelperfect scaler patch as well as OPLx's / NewRisingSun's patch for correct frequencies with Gameblaster card emulation . To visualize the differences between the vanilla and the …

Re: 3dfx voodoo chip emulation is back!

That aside, I don't quite understand how this patch works. Where's the glide2x.ovl? Would it even use openglide? The *.ovl files normally are installed with the games, they don't come from DOSBox. In most games you can find it directly in the installation directory. The patch itself doesn't need a …

Re: Mortal Kombat 3 slow on Shao Kahn

That is twisted beyond all reason. Why on earth would they do such a stupid thing? The music in MK2 is some of the best music ever made. Well, it's not as if the digitized music present in the home ports is that bad, or is it? Has anyone ever interfaced with the CD player through mscdex? I wonder …
