Don't most boards have problems with 4gb DDR2 dimms? Or is this registered RAM for one of your Xeon systems or something? Yep its registered ram. It for a 1207 system. I bought 2 6 core CPUs for 4$. Well, just after I made this post I removed the cooler, cleaned the thermal grease and took a look to the actual chip and, surprise, surprise, it's a R300, so it's totally logical that windows sees a 9700 card because it's what it is. The mistery remains, though, on why a 9700 chip is in a 9800 …

I know these cards are rare in general. Basically it comes down to me having found a non-ultra 128MB FX5800 for $50 or so USD. Are these cards rare enough to justify the price? (keeping in mind I get pretty much all my hardware online)

I'd try to save it. If you can't though keep the HDD, optical drive, and RAM as those are industry standard as far as I know and could be re used for other builds.

My 9800GX2 can handle Crysis maxed without AA @ 25-30FPS fairly consitantly at 1600x900 or lower. Keep in mind Crysis scales well with SLI in my experience.
