Aoe can't run on windows 3.1. Either way, even a pentium 3 can run windows 3.1, some agp card still had drivers for it (some S3, ATi and early nvidia cards, etc.) What are some examples of Win95 games that can work on Win3.11 using Win32s? The motherboard RAM maximum has no bearing on what is the maximum for Windows 98SE. As others have said, try with 512MB and see if it'll install properly. If you still have issues, perhaps it's the CF card adapter? I haven't tried one myself yet, not with 98SE.

10+ years ago, I found that Project 64 ran at full speed on a Pentium 4 2.4GHz desktop system running Windows 98SE. I think that's way out of the spec of this thread though. This inspires me to try some older emulators on my AMD K6-2 desktop system.
