Re: WickedGL driver, latest one that doesn't have logo?

in Marvin \ Video
IIRC, this is the only way to play the final version of Daikatana on a Voodoo2. It looks awful though. I don't understand why Voodoo support was removed from the game? There are two other amazingly capable opengl drivers for voodoo2: Mesa and also the Sage drivers. Both available on 3dfx.it. Have …

Laptop GPU graphics history/timeline?

in Marvin \ Video
Hey guys, I've been searching extensively to try and find examples of laptops circa 1998-2001 with graphics capable of basic OpenGL and Direct3D but can't really find anything, google is pretty much useless. Does anyone here have a link or some knowledge around this? Thanks

Re: Mid-1999 GPU That Takes Rendering Load from the CPU

The M64 is an absolutely horrible card and will be the source of your problems for sure. For the 1999 period get yourself a Voodoo 3 3000/3500 or a matrox g400/g400 max. They would suit your machine very well. Also since you mentioned loading stutters, check that your HDD is running in DMA mode and …

Re: Whats more important? The game or the hardware?

haha, I love your comment about your dad finishing farcry 5. Same with my uncle, he plays all the latest games on every console - where as I have almost zero interest. So many games I have purchased but not completed. But I did finish the last Doom 😀

Re: Whats more important? The game or the hardware?

Thanks for sharing guys, it's interesting how we all have slightly different perspectives on retro hardware and games. I sometimes boot up my modern modded Unreal 1 with high res textures in 2560x1080 ultra wide screen and it makes me go Wow :) But then I end up playing it on my V2 system :) …

Whats more important? The game or the hardware?

in Milliways
Hey guys, This is a question I feel only you guys might understand, but I have trouble working out. With many of my favorite old games based on the original Unreal or Quake engines, they can easily be run on modern hardware without issue. But to me there is something special about running them on …
