Today I started on my EISA/VLB 486 build. I recently picked up a boxed Asus VL/EISA-486SV1 motherboard. Today the EISA IDE Cache Controller arrived. It's a DC620B which i believe is manufactured by Tekram. It came populated with 4mb of ram which was a nice bonus. I put the bare basics together today …

Tested out the Asus EISA/VL 486 Motherboard which arrived today. Happy to report its powers on and posts and recognises the ram I installed. The Dallas is dead but thankfully it is socketed. Have a look at the Hart Maker mixer series. I have the Just Mixer 5 and I find it to be great. 5 Channel's input, Output via 3.5mm jack and RCA and also amplified output for headphones. It's powered via USB and is pretty compact. I've found it to be really good!

In some ways, it's now, for a typical user. PCs are so simple for the user that my gran can use Windows 10 for emails, youtube, all that stuff. Windows 10 updates itself, it protects itself, I didn't need to install any drivers etc. being "the computer nerd" in my family, it makes my life easier …

Just put an offer in and won on what looks to be interesting Asus 486 board. Its and Asus VL/EISA-486SV1. Looks to be boxed with manual and in nice condition.

Is the a option for Digital I/O in the bios? I have a 845 Industrial board with ISA slots and I had to set the Digital i/o address (220) and then my Digital Sound would work (This was on a Awe64 Gold).

The 6BXC is the PERFECT partner for a VIA C3 CPU, so I'd keep that along with probably the ABIT board. The Advance 10T is Tualatin compatible along with an ISA slot and the P6S5AT is just a unique board which i'd keep also. Ditch the rest.

I was in communication with him late October last year as we were working on the EWS64 cards for Unisound, but I'm sure he mentioned he was going to be busy which probably explains why he has gone quiet as of late.
