I think Parhelia is a bit more interesting. Just got a G650, I know it's the bottom of the lineup but it's the first I saw in 2 years of collecting.

I would not flash it without 99% certainty that it's the correct BIOS. Recovering a laptop is a pita. The biggest speed boost of an SSD in real life scenarios comes from it's very low time to access data and it's capability to do that in random access mode. Top reading speed can be useful when …

Ultimately it all comes down to cost. The slot and the socket might cost about the same but once you can die shrink the CPU and integrate the cache it suddenly becomes a lot simpler and cheaper.

Forget about ISA. If you care about graphics an S3 is best, on PCI or AGP. There's also not much you can do under Linux. There were some ported games but a bit later (Soldier of Fortune era). The Geforce 4 ti 4200 I was looking at got bought at 70 dollars. Not worth it imho. Look around for an fx5700 (not LE!). Should be cheap and it's not as crappy as 5200/5500 were. Leadtek and I think Asus as well used some pretty misleading model numbers back in the day, it might be worth searching …

Finally gave in and bought an AGP 1950 Pro equipped with a nice 2 slot cooler. I think I'll build a Win2k system with it.

I delved into Geneforge 1 while on vacation. I can understand now why it is considered one of the better RPGs. IWD Enhanced will need to "sit" for a while...

Bought my first and so far last CRT in 2002ish. It's a Samsung 757NF and I still have it. We used it until 2010, along with an HP L2035 (4:3, 1600x1200) I bought secondhand in 2007 or so. After moving in 2010 I used the HP exclusively until late 2017 when I switched to a 27" 4k LG.
