SSE and AVX are ridiculous ISA extensions. Just look at the name of this instruction -> PUNPCKHQDQ. Seems like you can do a lot with a $1000+ FPGA. Not sure what the price of the XC5VLX330 was originally, but on eBay right now it's $1500 and on Digikey it's nearly $17,000, though that's probably just priced that high because they'd have to spin back up a production line.

Slowest of which I'm aware is an 8MHz Pentium OverDrive. XP will likely "run" on any system with the pentium instruction set. It'll be slow, but it will boot. It's a shame it seems somewhat rare. If it were cheaper it'd be fun to whack a ridiculous overvolt on it and see if it can reach the highest specified bus speed (100mhz) with the highest specified multiplier (3.5). A 350MHz MP6 might even be as fast as a Celeron!
