Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

Saving money could be a motivation (though that may not be as cost saving as one would expect if I have to go through many revisions), but also simply not generating more ewaste and having to trash something that would be otherwise be 100% functional and that can simply (and cleanly) be improved. …

Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

There's something I was thinking of doing for those who have a rev 1.1 board : some card that would sit in-between the 86duino board and the motherboard that would get the PS/2 signals and also connect to the second serial port to connect the hidman and an ESP8266. I'm very new to kicad (only made …

Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

Yeah you're right, I should mention I'm running my ex at 500mhz. Aiming at the early 90's and before is a shame in my opinion as when ran at max speed it truly feels like a pentium (I mean 48fps in quake is a pretty good score and 50 FPS in duke3d at 640x480 is like a pentium MMX 233). As fun as 3d …

Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

I think speed improvement is not the only thing we should look after, I found some compatibility issues on several 2D apps which makes this even more interesting in my opinion. The kukoo2 demo didn't work. Now I know demos don't represent what most games used, but some games used demo effects, which …

Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

Hey just as I got the motivation, I also benchmarked a PCIe video card. I'm not quite sure what it is, it's just a very cheap card I pulled from a box (actually I think it's a GeForce 6200) Quake perform doom performs at 49.3fps (I think it's 486quake I left there) and doom (the original) performs …

Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

I received them a while ago, but I still have to build the motivation to try it  I'm curious too. The bridge chip I have is apparently kinda crap, but hopefully "crappy" is enough to bridge a crappy CPU with a crappy GPU :D Hey hey, don't crap on the Vortex CPU, it's super capable for …

Re: TinyLlama (Vortex86EX SBC)

Maybe the GPU could be changed for something better? I think the GeForce fx5200 or ATi x1300 chips can be bought NOS. Now this would make the build much harder, more complex, would require a big cooler (or something active), but I'm not sure the price would increase much considering how expensive …
