Think I found the short at Q151. When removed from the board pin 1 and 3 measure 0.51 ohms. After this is removed my 12V short to ground is gone. Well the restore on the CTX 1451ES hit a bit of a snag when after a full recap and changing the flyback I have no HV voltage at the anode cap. The light on the front of the monitor goes from orange to green when I power up a connected PC, so it seems like everything is working with exception of HV. …

It just holds the two halves of the core from coming apart, but those halves are already glued in place and are very unlikely to come apart. You can probably steal this from another transformer, they're usually very similar in size, or you can epoxy things so that there's no way for the core pieces …

if it did come from the era of the Amiga, I had a teac 720K in my A1200 that needed recapped. Same symptom as it wouldn't read or write disks. Ended up the faulty caps were what regulated the RPM on the disk motor if I remember right.

Ended up getting 4 32K chips and with 4 in one bank and the other bank empty it does indeed POST with 128K cache detected. So all is well it seems. Thanks so much for the replies and suggestions.
