Re: Viper 770 driver issue

Then I should correct myself. For me, Win98-period graphics cards have trouble displaying in 16:9 - chipsets like the i740, Riva TNT2, ATI Rage, etc. It wasn't until the Radeon/Geforce series was released that they started doing 16:9 resolutions, and for me that was Windows XP, not 9x. My first wide …

Re: Socket 775 @ 2006.11 - Core 2 Extreme QX6700, Geforce 8800 GTX, Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty

I agree. For me, the change from single-core to multi-core happened for me as I moved away from Windows XP and into WIndows Vista. I've never really used a computer running Windows XP that had more than a single-core processor. Vista ran great with a Core 2 Duo @2.4GHz and 4GB of DDR2-800. My …

Re: Viper 770 driver issue

I have the same Diamond card and I believe it's a full-blown Riva TNT2, as opposed to the cheaper M64 version or whatever. It runs DirectX 7 games very well at my TV's 1024x768 resolution (it's actually 1333x768, but Win9x has problems displaying 16:9 resolutions).

Re: Windows 95 install

Well, hate to burst your bubble, but I specifically mentioned that I was using a program that told me explicitly what memory was being used and for what. It's a German program called UMBINFO. And no, I cannot read German. Thank you Google Translate. F800-FFFF : System BIOS C800-F800 : unused space …

Re: Viper 770 driver issue

The problem is that you're trying to install raw NVidia drivers on a Diamond product. Yes, I know it's an NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 chip - I have the exact same card. But mine works perfectly fine. Why? Because I went after the Diamond drivers... provided by Diamond...for a Diamond card... I am attempting to …

Re: Windows 95 install

Thank you, that's what I was going for. I'm still tempted to tweak that final hex value to see where it works and where it stops working. It just takes time waiting for restarts, mainly because it takes 10-15 seconds to wait for the drive overlay software.

Re: Windows 95 install

Ok, so I just now figured it out... at least a working solution for EMM386.exe. I found a website that suggested using a german program called UMBINFO and I was able to find two different sections of Upper Memory, the 360K of unused 1MB memory in DOS as a hold-over from the 8088 days. As it turns …

Re: Windows 95 install

Thanks for catching my typo. What does highscan do? Also, I've taken out the 8MB EMS specification, since I just read it will dynamically allocate Expanded memory as needed out of Extended memory, and since it's very rare that I'd need to use it, that seems fine to me.

Re: Windows 95 install

Ok, this old computer is due for an update. Since the entirety of this thread before THIS post was all open-air, blah blah. Some things have changed about it. I took the Voodoo2 card out completely and stuck that in a different, slightly more powerful system. THIS computer now has a Diamond Monster …
