I came across this issue as well and the culprit was the VMM creation during the installation of the FIX95CPU. The unofficial SP tried to replace some VXD file that messes up with the existing VMM32.vxd. Currently I can't remember which VXD file from the SP messed it up. (Was it VMM.VXD?)

One thing I didn't try yet, is installing the Unofficial SP first and then applying FIX95CPU. Might do that to see if that fixes the problem or creates another one. This approach should work. You can also try to install the FIX95CPU upon installation first, then continue the installation of Win95 …

Dune II - should be mentioned here as well. I played that game so had, it broke my serial mouse as you had to click so much 😁 It also paved the way for all coming up RTS games or at least helped their "boom" in the 90s.

Thanks, I had the same issue with my ES1868F PNP ISA. Setting it to J201 via the BLASTER variable did the trick. Btw, is there also a command line switch for setting/changing the joystick port? Shouldn't the joystick port default to 201 instead of 200? Here's a neat program to test a joystick in DOS …

"Disable all 32-bit protected-mode disk drivers" was never a solution. Have you tried it out yourself that it was indeed the solution for VMware specifically? Disabling 32 bit disc access is just used temporarily to finish the installation in VMware. After replacing the patched "ESDI_506.PDR" …

Meanwhile, I've had mixed results with a Ryzen 5 3600. Using VMware 12.5.9 and setting "Intel VT-x or AMD-V" manually did actually work. However, using a more recent version of VMware 16.x didn't work at all.

PCem always provides (provided?) a good alternative to VMs like VMware or Virtualbox as it does not suffer from the lack of CPU features like broken VME on Ryzen machines.... It's a shame that people won't stop offending such great spirits behind PCem, until the whole project is dead...
