So inside I kept the most components I received (Mainboard/IO-card/RLL-Controller). The RLL/Floppy Controller seems to have a loose contact, maybe I am going to replace it. But I like the unusual Blue PCB. I replaced the original EGA-card with a HEATH P/N 150-307 to have the option to connect a VGA …

Finally the longer 6 - 32 UNC screws arrived. Now I was able to mount the 5.25" HD without rails. I had to choose a ST-238R because the Controller was RLL not MFM. Also mounted the 5.25" and the 3.5" Floppies. Found a way to fix the 3.5 in the top slot (more or less..). IMG_0058.JPG Now it was time …

In such cases I put some (or even more) fresh solder on the hole. Then heat up for a longer time so that the new solder and the part reminaing in the hole melts up. Then suck everything out. The additional solder stores more heat and heat transfer is better than only with the iron.

Thanks! Board is assembled again. Tested and running, including keyboard :-) Detects 4 MB of RAM, but one bank still free? Still need to clean the case in shower/dishwasher, but this can wait. Will then fill the gaps: 5,25" and 3,5" floppy and MFM/RLL hard drive. Quite sure it will look beautiful …

You can also try to plug in P8 and P9 separately and power-on. I wont hurt the board and may give you an idea where the error is located. Some old boards dont need P9 at all to work, dont know if its the case for a 486...
