Cleaned and lubricrated my first 5.25" drive (not my first drive to own, but first to fix up). The whole mechanism was completely jammed up. Took the head assembly, rail, and stepper motor out, cleaned with rubbing alcohol. then reinstalled and lubed with synthetic grease. Also cleaned the heads …

I'm excited to see more pics, the front of the case, the back ports, etc. That monochrome monitor and video card sounds exciting (I remember playing a lot on old herc monochrome displays). Though it might get old quickly. Also, looks like you're running 1MB ram, which will be a nice start.

I suspect this is an issue with the PSU. Lots of the cheapest ones don't use proper safety rated caps for the input filter which can present this sort of shock or fire hazard as they begin to fail. +1 on this. Modern electronics should use proper over the line caps (that aren't supposed to fail …
