Re: Improving a sloppy socket 7 build

Capture of some games running on the system. Audio capture isn't ideal, adds some hiss etc. but good enough for this purpose. DOS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BobPDuOBXRg. Adventures of robin hood ('91), rally-sport ('96), ultima 7 ('92), and deluxe ski jump 2 ('01). Windows: https://www.youtube …

Re: PCEm. Another PC emulator.

in PC Emulation
I seem to be able to mount and access the img in linux with mount -o loop, offset=xxxxx, which if it's a raw disk image isn't too surprising. A quick google confirms this, so just google around for how to access the raw disks of either pcem or some more popular software like virtualbox in your …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

I updated the vcs beta with some performance improvements esp. at higher output resolutions, and added the ability to define alias input resolutions. On my system the capture card always wanted to initialize 512 x 384 to 516 x 388 which I found annoying, so now I can tell vcs to automatically force …

Re: Improving a sloppy socket 7 build

I look to have builds that don't need excuses, hence this rebuild. I cradled the hdd with some hair bands I found that have a silicone anti-slip strip. That and screws for feet on the hard drive means the drive isn't going anywhere. The basic silent mount. Not the best place to put the drive in the …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Testing some low windows resolutions with the visionrgb-pro2. I'd noticed inconsistencies with these before. Matrox millennium: 320 x 240 = seems as 16-bit the capture card wants to pick it up as interlaced and doesn't display it properly, as 8-bit the game switches to 400 x 300 400 x 300 = works …

Re: Improving a sloppy socket 7 build

Slowly putting the system together, but I'll save the combat flash for my dos laptops. I put in the 2.5" momentus hdd, just lazied out and screwed it vertically on the side of the hdd cage with some padding in between. I can feel vibration being transferred from the drive onto the case so a better …

Re: Improving a sloppy socket 7 build

Rather than this build trying to be as great as socket 7 can in windows and/or dos it aims to be a more enjoyable recreation of the original pc than the original rebuild was. The original pc wasn't a perfect socket 7 machine, so by that nature this build can't accept the best parts, but ones that …

Improving a sloppy socket 7 build

I have a pc here that's originally a rebuild of the first pc I had, apart from an amiga 500 and my parents' 286 that preceded it. It's not a fully accurate rebuild though, and I'm still not looking to make it so. The original pc had a riva 128, but I never liked it and later upgraded it to a voodoo …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

I rewrote the vcs output scaling to work solely on aspect ratio + relative magnification. Enlarge with the mouse wheel, etc. Was tested only briefly, so there may be issues. As always, it's a beta test release. [old link, see later in the thread for a newer version]

TheGreatCodeholio wrote: Lately I've been using AV.io USB capture cards because they work with Linux and I no longer have to boot into Windows 7 to use the Startech cards. I find my regular pci card with windows-only drivers to work via pci passthrough in a qemu virtual machine letting me do …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Ambience didn't run on the test machine, kukoo2 seemed to work based on the second I can bear to look at any hyperactive demo. The gist of the graphics were there but also some horizontal artefacting. Was running on a voodoo 3. The capture card's not good at switching resolutions automatically in …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Give me a program that enters the modes you want in dos and i'll see what the card does. Nothing that breaks the computer please, preferably something that has facilities for image calibration in each mode. By the way, if I want a simple capture solution with a vga to hdmi converter for $20 shipped, …

Re: What speaker setup are you using on your vintage machine?

in Milliways
Headphone collectors are no different from collectors here and caused the prices of a lot of vintage planar headphones to skyrocket about 4 years ago (you can blame the "orhthodynamic" and "show us your vintage cans" threads on head-fi for that!), a k340 is almost the equivalent of a voodoo5, they …
