Re: DOS games that treat 320x200 as 16:10

TL;DR: aspect ratio for old DOS stuff wasn't set in stone as some of the more pedantic folks out there like to imply. It's not a position you should need to show wrong by finding counter-cases, though. If someone claims something was intended in a particular way, they're expected to provide the …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Newest version of the visionrgb capture utility, whoever was asking for a dl in pm. As before, this is available for a limited time. Works on my visionrgb-pro2, should support the pro1/2, e1/2, and some other older datapath cards, but you have no guarantees. http://personal.inet.fi/muoti/eimuoti/ …

Re: GeForce2 Ti vs. Matrox G400

Same as before, all settings max, 32-bit color (if supported), 640 x 480. Colin McRae Rally, 1998: the G400 ran normally, the GeForce2 had massive flickering, canceled the benchmark Midtown Madness, 1999: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiRevl62Byc Thief 2, 2000: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd_ …

Re: GeForce2 Ti vs. Matrox G400

in Homeworld and Soulbringer, the GeForce2 draws certain shades of red as grey, for instance. Had a look at the software version of homeworld, and it's actually the geforce2 that renders the colors correctly. Both the g400 and the voodoo3 do it wrong, relative to the software engine. Still wrong in …

Re: GeForce2 Ti vs. Matrox G400

People who remember the g400 from back then probably often didn't have the benefits we do now, more mature drivers and faster cpus. Not sure how fast the gf256 t&l engine is, but the g400's t&l engine here is the athlon xp, which may be the faster one. The videos are vga capture by the way, so …

GeForce2 Ti vs. Matrox G400

Creative (MSI) GeForce2 Ti 64 MB vs. Matrox G400 DualHead 32 MB. The GeForce2 has had most of its large capacitors replaced, but otherwise both cards are stock. Detonator 45.23 for the GeForce2, latest Matrox drivers for the G400. Test system: ASUS A7V333, AMD Athlon XP 2200+ underclocked to 1.5 GHz …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

All the displays at the time where 4:3, and I dont't recall latterboxing the display settings to be 16:10 being a thing. In this case its possible to deduct the intended aspect ratio from the Lucas arts logo at the beginning. I likewise recall people settling for good enough when it came to image …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

probably a carry over from my other hobbie movies, where there are smilar issues around pixel definition and film that is analogue and has no pixels. Original aspect ratio or in this case orginal intended aspect ratio is something that I don''t compromise on. Hoagie is fat enough in 4:3, no need to …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

You'd duplicate the design, but a modern display doesn't duplicate a crt, so you end up adapting. This implies aesthetics, which implies mutability. The dott remake keeps the 4:3 proportions but hides the pixels - pixels aren't the focus on a crt, they aren't the focus in the remake, and the design …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

This is my first attempt to capture and publish on Youtubbe. Re: PCem + S3D, or probably DOSBox-x + S3D

in PC Emulation
Incidentally, someone can tell whether the pcem virge emulation (probably d3d) is performing normally in the latter part of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CymoKAu33vo. The first part shows the reference software renderer. My guess is the virge emulation is not succeeding.

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Is the AV.io compatible for DOS resolutions? I can't find any information about that. Apparently not. I had asked Epiphan support about that a while ago and this was the answer: "The AV.io HD wouldn't be able to capture from your example resolution of 320x200 unfortunately. The lowest VGA signal …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

Someone got pci passthrough working for a pci capture card in virtualbox on linux host/windows guest? Through versions 5.1.18 and 5.1.24 of vb, I get my visionrgb-pro recognized by its drivers but it won't receive video, just a blank window. I suspect there may be a setting that has it working. Been …
