Re: Voodoo Rush compatibliity

I also have a Voodoo 1 that I've tested on the P4S533, and it works without a problem. The slowest 'good' system I have is an Asus P2B/Celeron 300a. I can try it there. I also have an Asus TX97/P166 MMX, but for some reason, the RTC is broken (whenever I set the clock, it refuses to POST). Not that …

Re: Good 4:3 LCD Monitor

Problem with 4:3 LCD's is most are older, and their response time and/or color reproduction is worse compared to newer widescreen LCD's of the same series. If you buy a new 4:3 monitor, it'll cost you much more compared to a similar widescreen (e.g. Dell has some new 1280x1024 (5:4) for $120/$200, …

Voodoo Rush compatibliity

I sniped an Integraph Intense 3D off eBay for a (what I think is) reasonable cost. I put it in my main Windows 98 test rig (Asus P4S533). It boots up fine and the Windows 98 splash screen even shows up. Problem is the splash screen just seems to load indefinitely (it doesn't seem to have crashed, as …

Re: ATI 2600XT performance?

The Opteron 144 was released in late 2005. So an 'in-era' GPU would be a Radeon X1800XT/X1900 XT. They can be had for quite cheap, still. R600 (HD 2xxx series) was heavily delayed, not shipping until mid-late 2007 and was basically the FX5800 for ATI.

Re: Voodoo5 5500

I like to pair Voodoo5 with Athlon XP on a KT333 motherboard. For example, almost any Unreal-based game can become CPU limited in various situations. Being able to use Glide is a major benefit already because it definitely has better efficiency than D3D or OpenGL with that engine, but you can still …

Re: Voodoo5 5500

Hello! The Voodoo 5 is an older card, so no it won't compete with your GeForce 4 or GeForce 6800, it's usually on par with the GeForce 2 depending on the game and CPU speed. The lack of a HW T&L engine hit its performance pretty hard in benchmarks around its release date. However, if you pair it …

Re: Best ISA Video Card for a 386DX-40?

So if VLB is tied directly to the 486 bus, what would happen if someone put in a Pentium Overdrive on the board? VLB will no longer be usable and you'd be forced to use ISA? Also, why didn't EISA take off? It would seem ideal (albeit lower bandwidth), as it is supposedly backwards compatible with …
