Re: 8k

£4,000 is not "pretty cheap" for most people! I doubt it will push away 4K screens any time soon. They've been available nearly 10 years now? And yet Steam Hardware Survey May 2021: 1920 * 1080 = 67% of users 3830 * 2160 = 2% of users. 2560 * 1440 = 8% of users More people game at the 'monitor 720p' …

Re: Allure of retro computing

For me I seem to like maximising old systems and using them for things they probably shouldn't be fast enough to do. A Core 2 Quad playing GTA 5 on Windows 10. My i7 860 playing Red Dead 2 and Cyberpunk 2077. Playing multicore friendly XP games on a dual pentium 3 system (this doesn't work very well …

Re: I build too many computers

This hasn't gone well. I decided I would move to Windows 7 so that the web was more usable. I didn't change hardware or move the PC around or anything. I spend more time browsing and 'faffing' than gaming so it probably would be the better OS. However it crashes when trying to do any updates. I …

I build too many computers

Like lots of people I am working from home (still) and have been for a year. This means lots of time to look at my (moderate) pile of computers, think of builds, plan builds and build builds. I’ve also got a range of cases, motherboard, monitor inputs and games, so I've got lots of flexibility in …

Re: Leak of Windows 11

It may be a stupid question, but what happens when you're set to sign in using your MS account and at some point the pc is offline? You are still able to sign in using the last known password, right? Yes, or the PIN code that you sort-of-have-to set up which is linked to the PC not the MS account.

Re: Leak of Windows 11

I quite like the "signing in on install" part of Windows 10. Activation is taken care of, my xbox game pass works fine etc. It's also "cleaner" in that on the occasions I've set up a local account and then ended up signing into my Microsoft account to get access to my paid for games I end up with …

Windows 7 updates

I find myself making a Windows 7 machine practically weekly which means that I'm downloading all of the updates for it practically weekly. My Windows 7 install USB stick has a few update packages on it, which kick start the built-in Windows update tool (otherwise it won't find any updates). But I …

Do any of you like art

I don't really know anything about anything and I know even less about art. I'm trying to find some posters that are in the same kind of style as these: https://i.imgur.com/p5wPcwqh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/x1UPIIXh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kDuk9rH.jpg I already have the Grand Tour one printed …

Re: Vogons Video Announcement Thread

I made a video for the first time. It was a trial to see if I had fun and I did have a little bit of fun making it. I also tested out my capture card and enjoyed capturing video from Windows and DOS. Here is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35ijCgb9VhY

Dumb question of the day - Back up Disk from A: to B:

in DOS
I bought a few games today. I want to back up from the 3.5" disks in B: to my Gotek in A:. I could just copy the visible contents of the disks to A: but is there a way I can make an "image" of the disk as I think this is better when installing software? Ideally how can I do this in DOS 6.22 so I …
