Re: Raspberry Pi 4 is here!

I get excited when a new Pi is released even though all I do is mess around with it as a toy. I have a 1B+ and a 3B, the 3B is really plenty powerful for exploring Linux and the odd bit of retropi. Musn't buy......

Re: Story behind your avatar?

My avatar is, of course, from C&C Generals. I started off playing on PCs in the 90s. But in 2001 to 2005 (at high school, basically) I did all my gaming on my PS2 and only used the family PC for MSN Messenger... except for C&C Generals. I loved building swarms of Overlord tanks. Especially with the …

Re: Retro computing without Windows 7 my options

I briefly messed around with a similar setup . Hello I know this is not a particular retro question but I use INTEL ATOM D525 with W7 and will soon be forced to switch, there seems to be hell of a lot of optons. I have used Windows 10 and I dont see any benefit over Windows 7 On an old (for a modern …

Re: Colours problem ISA Graphics

I think this only applied to PCI video cards. However toggling the setting is certainly worth a try. Could this be caused by messed up color settings on the monitor perhaps? Have you tried a different screen or the color settings of the screen? I've used the screen for a variety of uses this week ( …

Re: Colours problem ISA Graphics

Looks like palette access error. Such glitches are typical of bad buffering. I am quite sure the cause is the old tantalum caps. I'd suggest to replace the tantalums on your Acumos (acceptable) board instead of buying a Trident (bad) card. Edit: Look carefully at the picture of your card, see the …

Colours problem ISA Graphics

I only seem to notice it in Secret of Monkey Island I walk into the SCUMM bar and I get this: https://i.imgur.com/dPGfxbVh.jpg From a youtube playthrough, it is meant to look like this. https://i.imgur.com/Gzlmvvlh.png Pirate Dude on my PC: https://i.imgur.com/eySvV6Ih.jpg Pirate Dude on normal PC: …

Re: DUDE, show me your Dell!

Here is my painted Dell. The paint is very fingerprinty - it is only 3 days old and I didn't touch it for one of those days! It's got a Q6600, 4GB of RAM and will shortly have an AMD 7470 gor graphics. Just fine for XP games. I will also add some new stickers to cover the junk I couldn't persuade to …

Re: DUDE, show me your Dell!

Got a quick question about a free Dell Optiplexz 755 I picked up. It has a PCI-E and PCI slot in it. On the board it has written "Slot 1 pci-e X16 (25watt)". I assume that means the slot only delivers 25watts instead of the usual 75watts? Do you think I can get away with a 27watt AMD 7470? Is this …

Some photos from my trip to Brooklands

A few people liked my "Christmas in Finland" photos so I thought I'd share a few from my birthday visit to Brooklands. It's an motor and aeroplane museum, which historically was a race track. https://i.imgur.com/uHgZgW6h.jpg In the 1920s... https://i.imgur.com/lmTOVaQ.jpg Now... https://i.imgur.com/ …

Re: The Grand OPL3 Comparison Run!

I have a few days off work so I am doing a few sound card comparisons myself. I'm "pretty much" following this methodology (I wasn't intending to upload as I have done OPL songs that I like, and the cards I have are pretty standard and already uploaded) but I have a quick question about Audacity " …
