I had a 9800XT that looked much like this. I tried a toaster oven reflow......didn't fix it. It's a shame so many of these 9000 series cards have died heat deaths.

Great project you are doing a superb job on this thing so far. One thing to note though, you might have to install a resistor or something to prevent the CR2032 from trying to recharge. Depending on the motherboard some of those old Varta's were set to recharge and of course a modern lithium battery …

It is known that caps with lots of life in them, left unused, even if new never used, gradually lose capacitance, but some short periods of use will "reform" them and they gain back their original spec. Well I got the FSB to run more or less stable at 83mhz. Thanks xrror for kickstarting my brain. I reset the divider and seems to be working now. I went directly from Windows 3.11 and a AMD 386 Packard Bell, to a no name clone K6-2 running Windows 98SE. I never actually owned a PC running 95, but i did use my grandmother's PC running 95. I would say she upgraded from her Tandy 1000 series so that she could use the internet.

I just put a little 40mm fan on my PCI Voodoo 3 2000. The other fans and the bearings in the hard drive drown out any noise from it. I think the main difference between the two CPUs is that the K6-2 requires 2.2V while the K6-3+ needs 2.0V.
