I'm currently testing to do a similar biuld. I'm cheaping out though, as I currently only have a Intel branded 440BX board, and a OEM VIA Apollo 133 as a fall back option. I have been getting a lot of helpful advice from the VIA initiated on the forum.

The chip i've got clocks pretty decently, I was able to run it at 1600 (12x133) and pass all benchmarks and a 1+ Unreal flyby with no crashing or artifacts. Lucky you! :D Mine required a very small core voltage bump just to get it stable at 1.46 GHz. Yeah I was pleased. I usually don't get lucky …

VIA C3 CPUs works with any slotket adapter that supports Coppermine just fine, but the motherboard needs a BIOS that fully accepts them with the L2 cache intact. Not sure about the Intel SE440BX-2 though, being restrictive around CPU multiplier and FSB settings. Motherboards that I know that works …

Similar to Vetz, whilst doing different Google searches for support with a Socket 7 system, I found that "....all roads lead to Vogons". This was back in 2014 or so I believe.
