Dual channel does not benefit Socket A in any significant way. And GTA III isn't very optimized game.

Honestly, the performance difference between the two (at least in DOS games) is maybe 5% Actually there's a huge difference between them (in favor of Matrox), but to tap that potential, much powerful system is required. And yes, Matrox Millentium II is quirky for DOS.

I doubt it will be a problem for next 10+ years. Niche for old style PSUs will be too big to ignore by manufacturers. It's not even a big problem to acquire new AT PSU after 20+ years.

Athlon XP 3000+ / Pentium 4 3.06 with GeForce 2 AGP or higher should be a safe bet for super heavy DOS. There's still a room for improvements though.

Where AGP video card becomes a necessary and PII or PIII class for this? Pentium III Coppermine 500 or better for anything late DOS.

The only two brands that differed from the reference designs were the Miro and Canopus branded cards Gainward, Quantum 3D. Not to mention that some boards had 110Mhz and 125Mhz rated memory, which is beneficial for overclocking.

Didn't saw tests, only rumors about how horrible that card was. But if we take into consideration that 9400CXi is slower than common Cirrus Logic and S3 805 cards (with just 486DX2), 9200 would be even worse.

. like S3 805, CL5428, Tridents.. Apparently Trident 9200 is quite horrible for everything. are pretty much the same in DOS. No, they aren't, but without powerful CPU it really doesn't matter.
