There's also some chances that contact was lost between crystal and BGA on which it was mounted on. Such defect can't be repaired unless you replace the whole GPU.

Authentically best option would be Quadro FX 4400 SLI (GeForce 6800 Ultra 512mb) or Quadro FX 4500 SLI (GeForce 7800 GTX 512mb).

As I said before, those values will change will Coppermine/Tualatin CPU. You can also override them with proper Slot 1 adapter on something like Celeron Mendocino.

GPU have lost contact with PCB, it's repairable, but right now it would be cheaper to just find another GTX 280. I can also suggest to mod BIOS on all working cards and radically tone down GPU voltage for 3D. You will lose almost all overclocking capability, but cards will work much cooler and …

Yes, motherboard will lower your voltage options accordingly. Possible, but not guaranteed.

ASUS P3B-F have dynamic voltage regulation which depends on CPU you've installed.

Guessing it was supposed to help make the power going to the CPU cleaner. Looks like a separate VRM, probably with voltage jumpers somewhere. I think you can fit Pentium MMX or AMD K6-2 into motherboard without split-rail voltage (430FX) with this thing.

But NV also used to say GF2GTS was meant for your 1600x1200 enjoyment. Which works with 16-bit color though. 6800 Ultra chokes up in places for some reason. Deus Ex Invisible War engine was notoriously buggy and meant to be played at 480p (or maybe even less) 30fps on Xbox hardware (GeForce 3.5). …

Just for the record - 3dfx cards even five years ago were not sold for ludicrous amounts of money like now. Another thing is, people reviewing certain retro hardware, such as the Roland MT-32 on YouTube drives the prices high Youtube boom certainly had huge impact. Especially on everything related …

Anyone knows what this card exactly is? CL-CD5429. 5424-5429 are pin compatible. Any idea of how could I upgrade its memory? Use FPM modules from some S3 Trio card.

I don't think I'll ever be nostalgic about P4 machines Top tier machines with 850/865/875 chipsets and 3ghz+ CPUs already starting to gain in price slowly.

f a 486 can use a 3dfx card usefully to much benefit (no CPU chokage on fpu-heavy software renderers) Which could be even faster in such scenario, due to much higher clocks. But it's still slow to my taste.
